Challenge: Old servers in a remote location
Sanjay Arora, Technology Manager, MTV, minces no words describing their data center in Singapore. "We had old servers and network in our datacenter hosted in Singapore and we faced poor response times. For an interactive, dynamic portal such as ours, we can't afford slow responses at all. Also we constantly feared that the servers may give way anytime as they were old. We preferred a datacenter in India, so if there was an issue we could be hands-on and involved. We needed a good datacenter solution hosted in India".
MTV realized that it was important for them to look for a higher standard of service and product enhancement and also access to better skill sets. Another large reason for MTV to seek NetMagic was the need for a stable IT environment.
MTV zeroed in on NetMagic for two reasons:
- Their world-class infrastructure and services,
- Seasoned expertise in configuring appropriate, customized datacenter solutions.
The first part of the solution involved moving the existing IDC from Singapore to India. This was followed by recommending the required hardware components to configure the new set-up.
Implementation: Empowering the MTV portal
NetMagic built redundancy in every aspect of the data center: Server, Electricity, bandwidth and so on.
NetMagic consultants then recommended the hardware to be purchased and used. Sanjay says, "NetMagic suggested the routers to be bought, what network needed to be set up, the switches that need to be used etc. They laid out the scope of the solution and explained what needs to be purchased and implemented; we followed this to the 'T'".
The services contracted from NetMagic include: Rack space, dedicated firewall, advance monitoring, bandwidth and backup.
MTV appreciates NetMagic support
Today MTV has physical access to the servers and the response times have been drastically improved – reduced from 12-15 hops to 2-3 hops, creating a much better experience for MTV users. Built-in datacenter redundancies also create much higher availability and uptime.
