VMWare Engineer – L2

Job Designation: VMWare Engineer – L2

Department: Operations

Reporting To: Program Manager

Work Shift: Rotation

Location: Mumbai

Primary Responsibility:

Incident Management&Problem Management

  • Work in a 24 X 7 Environment (NOC)
  • Monitoring and ticket management
  • Ensure that the tickets raised per shift are closed as per SLA and if not, escalate as per the escalation Matrix defined
  • Create and update the tickets in ticketing system for all the issues handled / worked upon
  • Vendor Management
  • Work with intra departmental teams to isolate & troubleshoot customer issues
  • Carry out patch & bug updates at regular intervals and do the necessary follow-up with customer
  • Hardware management

Change Management

  • Ensuring that the change requests are implemented within defined timelines
  • Onboarding new customer setup provisioning

VMware Skills

  • Experience on VMware ESXi 5.0, 5.1 and on Vsphere would be preferable
  • Experience in V2V, P2V, VMotion and VMware virtual center deployment & troubleshooting
  • Good hands on Experience in diagnostics & troubleshooting of ESXi, vCenter, vCloud Director
  • Experience on Esxi command line
  • Experience in performance tuning of VMWare servers and Virtual sessions and management of servers Resources between virtual machines
  • Experience in backup and recovery of Virtual machines and virtual servers
  • Installation & administration of vCenter, ESX/ ESXi, vCenter Update Manager, VMware vSphere
  • Creating, Managing and troubleshooting of Virtual networks, storage (SAN / NAS, NFS)
  • Configuration and troubleshooting of vMotion, sVmotion, HA, DRS

Functional Skills

  • Creation of Handover Reports, capacity and daily reports & manual execution of health check scripts, etc.
  • Documentation Skill (e.g. SOP, Creation of Known Error Database etc.)
  • Creation & Maintenance of operations Checklists
  • Process adherence
  • Ensure BCP and mock restoration process is followed as per schedule
  • Prepare SOP's all critical services and follow the same
  • Prepare Project Run Book
  • Equip team with necessary documents /Audit trails/evidences for Audit purpose
  • Customer oriented approach & effective customer complaint handling
  • Adhere to shift timings and shift handover process

Secondary Responsibility:

Linux Skills

  • Administration and Troubleshooting of Linux servers, DHCP, DNS, KVM, Antivirus.
  • Handling/ Setting/Configuring Servers

Skill Development

  • Ability to learn, implement & adapt new applications / tools etc.
  • Impart training to team members
  • Regular mentoring of team members

Mandatory Technical Skills:

  • Strong Troubleshooting skills
  • Experience of administering a complex ESXi, vCenter, vCloud Director ,VMWare& Linuxproducts
  • Experience with VMWare ESXi Clustering, VMware Troubleshooting, Configuration, VM Templates , cloning, upgrades etc.

Desired Technical Skills:

  • Awareness of Networks, KVM, Windows& Storage Technology

Typical Years of Experience:

  • 5 to 7 years

Education Qualifications:

  • Any Graduate or Diploma in IT/Electronics

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Must be VCP certified & with RHCE certification will be an added advantage
  • ITIL Foundation Certification

Mandatory Skills:

  • Self-driven and motivated
  • Excellent communication skills (Verbal & Written)
  • Team Player

Other Comments:

Any experience in working with international customer will be an added advantage.
